In August of 2005, Cincinnati Habitat for
Humanity officially kicked off the formation of a new young
professional group, Cincy Habitat YP.
This group is made up of young professionals in the
Cincinnati area ages 21-40 who are actively promoting the Habitat
for Humanity’s goal of eliminating substandard house in the city of
Cincinnati and Hamilton County area.
Ryan Derrow heads up a Steering Committee that has figured
out how to put the fun back into fundraising by having happy hours
and social events to raise money for Cincinnati Habitat for
Humanity.
Since the creation of the group, Cincy Habitat YP has
successfully raised over $3,000 dollars for Cincinnati Habitat and
participated in multiple fundraisers for Katrina Relief
efforts.

Although Cincy Habitat YP is young, they have huge
goals for 2006.
Cincy Habitat YP hopes to raise over $39,000 this year to
cover half the cost of building a home in Cincinnati.
Cincy Habitat YP is also looking for committed volunteers to
help with organization and execution of their upcoming events.
Currently, the organization has plans for monthly Happy Hour
fundraisers, wine tasting, auctions, and other events.
Agnes Spurlock, development
director at Cincinnati Habitat says, “We are delighted to welcome
these young professionals to our organization. We appreciate
their energy and enthusiasm and look forward to working with them in
the future.”
If you want to become a part of our organization
or find out more information please contact us at

Our organization is always looking for young professional
leaders who want to give back to our community.

| It was a great start in the first year for our growing
organization. There
were many events that were fun as well as successful in the year
2005 and we are looking forward to an even better 2006. The first event we had in
2005 was a Happy Hour at Kona Bistro in Oakley Square. Although this event was less
publicized, we still had a good turnout raising around $500 for
Habitat for Humanity.
Our second event was a co-sponsored event at McFadden’s
in which the proceeds went to Hurricane Katrina victims in the Gulf
Coast Region.
This disaster devastated thousands, and almost destroyed one
of our most culturally rich cities.
In conjunction with other groups around Cincinnati, the
Katrina Collaboration Happy Hour was able to raise thousands of
dollars to give to the people in the Gulf Coast.
This is the first among many steps Habitat YP intends to take
to rebuild the region.
Following our involvement with the Katrina
Collaboration, Cincy Habitat YP held another Happy Hour event at McFadden’s
to benefit our local community.
Our turnout at this event was above and beyond what we
expected, and we managed to raise around $1000.
This happy hour allowed us to connect with hundreds of young
professionals around the Cincinnati Area and increase their
awareness of Habitat for Humanity.
From this event we were not only able to raise money, but we
were also able to attract new YP’s who were interested in helping
out our cause.

As
we step into the New Year, Cincy Habitat YP is looking forward
to many events and projects.
By joining together and supporting our community we can
continue to develop our city into a better place to live for
everyone.
The
first event of 2006 will be a happy hour fundraiser at Mulligan’s
Hyde Park Pub.
This event will be held on January 27th from
5-9pm.
If you came to the last happy hour at Mulligan's, you know
this is a great time for people to come out, have some fun, and
support a good cause.
The drink special for that night is a $10 donation for 10
drink tickets.
That night we will also have a raffle.
If you choose to enter the raffle, you will have the chance
to win a Zenith TV, Mitchells Salon gift certificate, and other
great prizes.
This is a fun opportunity to socialize and meet new people
interested in changing the standard of living in our community.
The Cincy Habitat YP committees, as well as friends and
co-workers, will be there to promote Habitat for Humanity and have a
good time.
The next exciting event will be a wine tasting
fundraiser at Andy’s Mediterranean Grill near Eden Park on Nassau
Street.
Since it is just a short trek from Mt. Adams, Downtown, and
Eden Park this centralized location is definitely going to be packed
for this can’t miss event.
Andy’s Mediterranean Grill has an extensive and delicious
menu and bar selection, and the décor and the lighting provided and
ambience in unlike any other.
If you haven’t already been there, or if you’re a regular, be
at Andy’s Mediterranean on February 23rd at 5pm for this
wonderful event. It’s perfect for a night out with your friends or
significant other.
